Honest, un-emotional, thoughts on whether or not this season will have an adverse affect on, near term, recruiting?
Honest, un-emotional, thoughts on whether or not this season will have an adverse affect on, near term, recruiting?
I'm going to give a firm "maybe."
I do think it can be helpful recruiting-wise to show a tangible, upward trajectory in wins and losses, but there might be enough to point to (win at Butler with Domask, taking Loyola to OT on the road, etc.) to sell to recruits, along with emphasizing the youth on the roster. The good news is most of the class of 2021 work was done in the fall ... hopefully they're still able to add a couple helpful pieces this spring, with an emphasis on athleticism and a veteran or two to add to the mix.

I would say no. I think Covid has had a more adverse affect on recruiting than our wins and losses. High school basketball seasons were delayed, shortened or cancelled all together. In home visits by coaching staffs were cancelled, on campus visits by recruits were cancelled and dead period contacts with recruits were extended by the NCAA.
I think everyone's schedule was affected in some fashion: quarantined players or whole teams, rescheduled or cancelled games, travel restrictions, no fans at games. A crazy season for sure.

My answer would be no.
It will be interesting to see if Foster Wonders can make any kind of immediate impact in a meaningful way, like the way Marcus Domask did his freshman year. I have my doubts about this one, to be honest. I would say some of the players sitting on our bench this year could have those kind of numbers if playing for a very small high school like Iron Mountain. It is not like the kid is playing in the Suburban leagues of Chicago.
While that is a VERY legitimate concern, the one thing this kid CAN DO is shoot and shoot lights out. He may have trouble with the speed of the college game, especially the defense, but you simply cannot discount the fact that this young man is a shooter / scorer.

"We really wanted to get this one. We have been playing against those guys from Loyola since we were little kids. It always feels great to beat Loyola."
Those were the postgame comments from Notre Dame senior forward Troy D'Amico.
Hopefully this stays true for the next 4 years
