Pretty sure Indiana State wants Murray State to help reduce travel in the MVFC. We also like the idea of playing schools similar to us and ones that have actual fans. SIUC being a slowly dying university that is scared of Murray State isn't our problem. Luckily for SIUC you guys seem to have some private schools in the MVC that are willing to reject football schools.
The last 3 adds have all been private schools now. MSU Bears fans seem less than impressed, and according to some of their fans the school has been reaching out to the SBC and CUSA.
A Sycamore fan has the audacity to come on this board and call SIU a slowly dying university?! Ha! That’s rich! InSU is in an objectively worse position than SIU. We don’t even know if SIU is blocking Murray State, and half the fans on this board are in favor of Murray. Go back to your quickly dying university’s board!
I find it funny that Missouri State has one good football season and suddenly they're ready for the FBS. Their basketball program has constantly underachieved since the start of the 21st century and their football program was a dumpster fire before last season.. I'm sure they're attractive for the Sun Belt and CUSA based on their student enrollment and nice location but I'm not sure a step-up would go as well as their fans would hope. But I'm sure they'll enjoy playing for a chance to go to the Bad Boy Mowers Bowl every year in Shreveport, LA.
The best thing Missouri St has done in the last 20 years is no longer calling themselves "Southwest Missouri State."

My sister and brother-in-law live in the Nashville metro, both Belmont alumni. I've been to a game at the Curb Event Center, it's very nice but will need more seating when they are hosting Valley teams. Can't wait till SIU fans rock the place!
Also, Vince Gill is a regular at their home games, right behind the home bench, and I basically ran right into him in the parking garage after the game.
Doug Elgin was a good game manager. But Jeff Jackson is here to throw booooombs into the endzone!
It's official. Belmont joins July 1. Welcome to them.

Adding another team does nothing but split another share. Belmont makes sense. Murray would be fighting for 6th place this year maybe. To the slow folks that means just giving away money that is desperately needed.

I'm not saying yes or no to adding Murray St., but how competitive would the Racers be in sports other than Men's Basketball? I know their football hasn't been competitive with Southern the last few times we've played them.
Not MVC-related but things are happening in the Mountain West......

Actually adding another share( diluting the take) is true if you assume that you are always going to be a one bid league. If you think that adding Belmont and or others strengthens your league so that it may be more than a one bid league then it is a plus. The proof will be in the pudding. Since CU and WSU left the Valley and SIU last made its run in the early 2000's the Valley has rarely been a multiple bid league. The Valley was a multiple bid league when SIU, CU, WSU , UNI and others were good on a regular basis. If Belmont or others help the league raise its profile by being a top quality program then it will help the league not hurt it. Adding Belmont will cost each league team about 8,000 dollars of the 1,200,000 dollars share the NCAA pie represents. If the Valley got three teams in the NCAA tournament the league would get approximately $3,600,000 before the 2nd round. With 12 shares, each team would receive 300k. WIth 13 shares it would be about $277,000 per school. We shall see what Belmont ultimately brings to the table.
Right now the formula for dividing the money is this:
The school that receives the bid gets two shares
Every other school gets one share and the MVC office gets one share. Thus 12 shares. Adding Belmont will increase the total shares to 13 .

Bingo. If you think the Valley will stay a one bid league like it was the years after Wichita left, then 12 teams sharing the pot is a bad idea. But adding a Belmont and hopefully another good basketball school likely turns the Valley into a 2 bid league every year with the chance for 1 or 2 extra bids. Basically what the Atlantic 10 is now.
Also another thing, you’ve got to add good programs if you can in case the Big East or American give a school like Loyola a call and you’re back in the same position you were in when Wichita left.
people over at mvcfans website going crayz today. the skiy isn't falling yet.
According to the new commissioner, the 12th team will probably be a public one.

Pretty much everyone there is banking on Murray State being the one and only option. They’d personally be my first choice based on basketball prestige and fanbase but there are downsides that will likely hurt them like budget, other sports, and location.
If I had to guess, I’d guess Milwaukee will be the likely choice if they expand to 12. I think market size and TV matters a ton to the Valley.
