I appreciated the gracious reference to Mullins from Nagy and would have liked to hear either the chancellor or AD do the same.
Yes, very classy comments from Nagy. Impressive that he is not tone-deaf about the fan base's emotional state.

Oof. Don’t really like that.
Seems like he’d try to bring at least one of the coaches with him - someone who is familiar with how he likes to operate both personally and in terms of gameplan.
Starting over from scratch doesn’t seem ideal.
@saluki44 that doesn’t mean they aren’t coming he’s just not publicly going to say it
I’m not worried about Nagy building a staff really. He’s been a coach forever and probably has a ton of connections to build a quality staff. I worry about not taking any players though.

do you think it could be a non answer so that he doesn’t say it before it happens ?

Could be this. There’s also a few players in the portal already that technically aren’t on the team now.
If players enter the portal or de-commit, I don’t believe that would be considered poaching.I’m not worried about Nagy building a staff really. He’s been a coach forever and probably has a ton of connections to build a quality staff. I worry about not taking any players though.
Scottie Ebube, you absolutely need to stay at SIU. This is your coach to a tee, dude.
I truly hope Scottie was listening today. Coaches system sounds ideal for bigs. I hope the two of them will sit down and have a discussion, and Scottie stays. 🤞🏻
Someone may have already answered this (didn’t check yet) but yes, Scottie Ebube was the lone player that was there when coach was speaking, and he stayed and listened to it all, while standing amongst the fans and saying hi to people. If nothing else, it’s a high quality character move to be so intently listening among everyone.
I'll always support SIU Basketball but I cannot for the life of me see how someone says that what they heard was impressive.
This is the Mullins Effect: great human, really good character guy, family first, few words, but your world will not be on fire.
I got the impression during the conference that he is the re-builder and in a few years, he'll move back to Dayton while the next guy runs with the program. I'm ok with that as it sounds like he will provide a vision and stability, but the word(s) "impressive" "all in" or any other word even hinting at leadership excitement is beyond my grasp.
We'll score points, he'll create a system and a style of play that is new and different, and hopefully, he'll have a really good assistant who will take over. That's my take.
Either way, more had to be going on with the program and Nagy is here and I wish him nothing but the best. He's placed there for a reason. I can trust the process.
I think people tend to underestimate the kind of allure an older, faith driven coach has. A lot of young athletes are very faith driven and a lot of parents don’t like the salesmen type of coaches. Not saying he’s a home run, but his leadership style is not going to be an issue IMO.
@kiwiball don’t need a 4.0 to be a great kid. Lots of really talent kids out there that we passed up on due to being afraid of the old ways. That would have ended up being just fine.
O am not saying not to take a chance. But Roberts was a 1 year starter. Plus Weber who had 18 years at Power 5 school had a lot more experience than Mullins. I just don’t us to revert back to the last 2 years of C-Lo with APR, police blotter athletes. There were plenty of unreported incidents. So let’s move on to get the best of both worlds. Remember a new young coach reflects on his values. BM was a 4.0 and maybe that reflects on his commitment to his recruiting. He looked for good academic and players who were on winning programs. Good, bad or indifferent. He is gone and now we have Nagy
As I was one of the unfortunate ones who had to work today is it possible someone could post the press conference thanks in advance don't need video audio will suffice
